Prof. Michael Y. Wang and Prof. Zhiyang Yao Receive HKD 2.047M from ITC and ASM
24 Jan., 2006
A research team jointly led by Prof. Michael Y. WANG and Prof.
Zhiyang YAO of ACAE Department has received a grant from the
Innovation Technology
Commission and ASM Assembly Automation Ltd. to develop technology of
structural optimization for high dynamic performance in electronics
manufacturing equipment, for a period of two years.
The abstract of the project is given below:
As a world leading manufacturer of equipment and materials for
semiconductor manufacturing and packaging, ASM continuously
identifies novel technologies for their development into superior
products to maintain our competitive edge. In this proposed project,
we plan to explore the novel idea of topology and shape ptimization,
to apply it for structural dynamic applications, and to develop it
into proprietary technologies. The goal is to employ the innovative
technique of design optimization for significant improvement in
structural dynamic performance to meet the core technical challenge
in a broad line of our product models. For this joint project, we
have established a partnership with a team of CUHK researchers. Our
specific project deliverables include a structural optimization
methodology and associated software system for designing machine
structures with high performance in frequency response functions and
operational deflection sensitivity. This technology is targeted to
directly support our business activities in designing new machines
and upgrading the existing models.
