B.Eng.ACE (2003-04 and before)

1. Major Programme

1.1. Applicable to students admitted in 2003-04

There are three streams of specialization: Automation, Computer-Aided Engineering, and Design.  Students may choose to specialize in one of the three streams and select certain courses as prescribed.  A student who does not wish to specialize in any of the three streams should follow a study scheme devised with the advice of the academic advisers of the Department. 

Students are required to complete a minimum of 79 units of Major courses as follows:

(i)      Required courses:  
44 units

ACE 1030, 1060 (or IDE 1020), 1100, 1880, 2030, 2060, 2070, 3910, 3920, CSC 1110, ELT 1111, ERG 2014, 2015, #3820 and #SEG 2470

Graduation Project as prescribed by ACE 3910/3920 will carry a separate weight of 10% in the assessment for degree classification.

 
   
(ii)     Elective courses from:     
33 units

Core electives

ACE 1040, 1050, 2020, 2040, 2050, 2080, 2110, 2130, 2140, 2910, 3010, 3070, #CSC 2520 and ERG 2020

Non-core electives

ACE 3040, 3050, 3080, 3090, 3100, 3120, 3130, 3140, 3180, 3200, 3210, 3220, #CSC 3170, #ELE 3230, #4230, #IEG 3310, #SEG 2440, #3450, #3490 and #3500

  Plus three weeks of industrial training in the summer after their first year of attendance.

Streams of Specialization

To qualify for a stream of specialization, students must complete the core electives under the stream.

(1)    Automation Stream

ACE 2110, 2130, 2140, 3010 and ERG 2020

(2)    Computer-Aided Engineering Stream

        ACE 2020, 2050, 2080, 3070, and #CSC 2520

(3)    Design Stream

        ACE 1040, 1050, 2020, 2040, 2050, and 2910

1.   Except ACE2090 (applicable to students admitted in 2003-04 and before), major courses coded ACE2000 and above will be included in the calculation of the Major GPA for honours classification. Courses with ˇ§#ˇ¨ are to be included in the Major GPA as well.

2.  Number of free elective units to take in each term may be adjusted as long as the total number over the course of study is maintained.
