Chi-Kit received BSEE (Computer and Control Stream) from the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, and MSEE and PhD (Computer Engineering) from University of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles. He has been an Integrated Circuit design engineer and an electronics engineer in industry, and has been with the Institute for Robotics and Intelligent Systems (IRIS) of USC for a number of years. He is currently with the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Hong Kong, as Director of the Computer Vision Laboratory (CVL) and Professor in the Department of Mech. & Automation Engineering.

His research interest is primarily computer vision, which is about how three-dimensional information including shape and motion of objects could be inferred from images through vision cues like stereo, visual motion, boundary, shading etc. He also studies the application of computer vision to robotics, object recognition, security, wide-field-of-view imaging, graphics, intelligent transportation systems, and others.

He was the chairman of the IEEE Joint Chapter on Robotics and Automation Society and Control Systems Society of Hong Kong in 2001-2003. He has been an Honorary Professor of Nanjing University of Astronautics and Aeronautics (Nanjing, CHINA) and Shanghai Jiaotong University (Shanghai, CHINA) since 2002 and 2006 respectively, helping out in PhD student supervision in the institutions.

He is a senior member of IEEE of USA and a member of MENSA. He is the Principal Inventor of the Patent "Imaging System for Three-Dimensional Reconstruction of Surface Profiles" filed to USA. He was the recipient of the 2005 Exemplary Teaching Award of the Engineering Faculty of CUHK. In his younger days he obtained the "CCS" Award for his score in the Hong Kong public examination HKCEE.

In his spare time, Chi-Kit is a keen movie goer, an occasional ping pong player, and pretends to be a music enthusiast.
